RO Water Purifiers

#1Kent Grand– RO UV UF TDS Water Purifier

Pros

✅High powered 11 W UV bulb. Kills germs with higher efficacy than other brands.

✅TDS controller helps save water wastage and adjust TDS in purified water according to your taste

✅Fast filtration rate

Cons

❌High maintenance costs

❌Customer service complaints in many areas

Our Rating

Our pick for the #1 Best Water Purifier in India currently. There are no complaints with this product, it has all the features one would want in a RO UV UF water purifier. Especially the high powered high powered 11 W UV bulb- much more effective than the standard 8 W bulb most brands use.

Their customer service quality and maintenance costs, however, are a concern.

#2 Livpure Glo– RO UV Water Purifier

Pros

✅Excellent build quality. We love how stylish it looks!

✅Easy installation. Can be done at home using a screwdriver and drill.

Cons

❌No TDS controller. If you are conscious of water wastage(as you should be!), you may want to ask your installation service man to attach an external TDS controller. (~200 Rs extra)

❌Poor after sales service

Our Rating

Livpure Glo has all the standard features such as an auto on-off,12L/hr filtration rate and 7L capacity. However, the best thing about it are it’s looks. Extremely stylish, it’ll look amazing in any kitchen it’s placed in. It’s not priced too high either.

The only concern with Livpure is the quality of product support, of which there have been multiple complaints online, more so than the other brands.

If you’ve had a good experience with Livpure previously in your area, go for it.

#3 Kent Grand Plus-RO UV UF TDS Water Purifier

Pros

✅11 W high powered UV bulb provides additional purification layer

✅TDS of output water can be changed according to preference

✅Fantastic water purification rate of ~20 L/hr

✅Saves water( About ~50%- higher than most RO’s)

Cons

❌Poor after sales service

❌High maintenance cost

Our Rating

Kent Grand Plus has only one major difference over the Kent Grand- it has an inbuilt tank that stores the rejected water that normally flows down the drain. This helps it save ~50% water that can be used for mopping floors, watering plants, etc.

But this difference isn’t enough to convince us to recommend Kent Grand Plus over Kent Grand. Go for the earlier model and store the reject water in a bucket- that’s what most of us should do anyway!

BUY ON AMAZON!

#4 Aquafresh Swift– RO UV UF TDS Water Purifier

Pros

✅Less water wastage and water according to personal taste due to TDS controller

✅Pre-filters provided with product(many brands force customers to buy separately on installation)

Cons

❌Build quality could’ve been better

❌Service complaints

❌Operation not automatic-you’ll have to manually switch the filter on and off

Our Rating

This is a relatively small brand yet, so doesn’t have the good looks of a big brand’s product.

While it may not look amazing, it filters water just as well as any other product and provides all the same features. If you’re on a budget, this is the product to buy.

Non electric Water Purifiers

#1 HUL Pureit Classic

Pros

✅Very sleek design and sturdy build.

✅Kills viruses, bacteria, cysts and protozoa.

✅Is the only manufacturer to put up it’s certification data online! Major points to them for transparency!

✅Large 14 L capacity(includes purified and unpurified water containers both)

✅Ease of self maintenance. Spare Germkill kits and pre-filter microfiber mesh available on Pureit website as well as on Amazon.

Cons

❌Slow rate of filtration

❌Leakage issues if water is incorrectly filled into the upper chamber

Our Rating

This is the most comprehensive gravity filter on the market right now. HUL’s proprietary Germkill technology differentiates it very well from the pack. It doesn’t afford the flexibility of an electric water purifier – this one takes roughly double the time to purify the same amount of water, but that’s a minor issue given all the features and ease of maintenance it provides.

You can effectively cut out the complaints most people have of any water purifier brand – the service staff, with this product. All the filters are available online and can be replaced at home. We like this aspect the most.

#2 Tata Swacch Cristella Plus

Pros

✅Conveniently built, all parts can be washed separately and sun dried

✅Dummy proof design, just follow the color labelling on the water filter to fill water accordingly.

✅Spare Swach filter bulbs(free mesh included) available online on the Tata Swach website and Amazon as well

✅Large water tank capacity- 18 L(includes purified and unpurified water containers both)

✅Auto shut off mechanism

Cons

❌Mediocre design and build quality

❌Tata Swacch top mesh spare part not available online. You would have to buy through the Tata service team.

Our Rating

Tata has been in the non electric water purifier market for a long time – the first version of Tata Swacch Cristella was launched after the 2004 Tsunami, called ‘Sujal’, so they’ve been perfecting their Swacch technology for quite some time.

One of the most popular gravity filters online, it uses the proprietary Tata Swacch Bulb filtration technology to purify water. We like how user friendly this product is and of course, having the weight of the Tata Swacch brand behind it lends a lot of trust.

BUY ON AMAZON!

#3 Eureka Forbes Aquasure

Pros

✅Good build quality

✅Chemical free water filtration

✅Self maintenance and replacement of filters is very easy

✅Water level indicators in upper and lower containers both(for unpurified and purified water respectively)

Cons

❌Slow filtration rate

Our Rating

The patented Kitanu magnet technology used by Aquasure is quite amazing- it filters out viruses, bacteria, cysts and protozoa without any chemicals being used. Must-buy if you’re looking into gravity purifiers.

#4 Kent Gold Optima

Pros

✅Good build quality

Cons

❌Doesn’t filter out viruses or other impurities less than 0.1 microns

❌Small capacity for a gravity water filter

❌Slow filtration rate

Our Rating

There’s not too much to love about this product. It’s purified water capacity(5L) is way too less for normal usage, and combined with a slow filtration rate, it’ll be a pain to use it daily. Plus it’s ineffective against viruses.

Only buy if you’re looking to get a cheap water purifier for the short term.

Method of Rating the Best Water Purifiers in India

We picked the latest and best selling water purifiers in India and exhaustively analyzed them based on their specifications, customer service and online user reviews.

How to choose a water purifier?

Total Dissolved Salts level in water supply(TDS)

The maximum limit for healthy drinking water is 500mg/L, as set by the EPA. Mostly, though, it is recommended to get an RO purifier for TDS levels above 300 mg/L.

Water with high TDS levels is called hard and low TDS levels(<300 mg/L), is called soft. If you have hard water supply, you have no choice but to buy a RO water purifier, but if you have soft water supply, we encourage you to go for Non-RO water purifiers as RO purifiers waste a lot of water.

No of people in the household

Decide on the capacity of your water purifier according to the no. of people who will use it and how exactly they’ll use it. For instance, you could save money by buying a smaller purifier if you regularly store water in containers or bottles.

Budget

And of course, when there are so many great options across different price ranges, you must not go over budget. We’ll help you with that!
